Propane tanks for standby generators
A tank sized so your generator keeps running when the power is out.

When a storm takes the power out, a standby generator is only as good as its fuel. We install the propane tank and the gas line for your generator, and size the tank for how much gas your generator uses and how long you want it to run.
Not included unless your quote lists them: the generator itself and the electrical work. Ask us about them at the site visit.
What the job includes
- A free site visit and a written quote.
- A tank sized for your generator’s gas use and the run time you want.
- The tank set, anchored and placed to the propane code (NFPA 58), above ground or underground.
- The gas line to the generator, pressure-tested before use.
- The permit and inspections for your address.
- The first fill of propane, so the generator is ready.
Before hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1. Book your site visit well before then: the permit and the install take time, and the tank should be full before the first storm.
How it works
Free site visit
We look at the property, where the tank can go and how far the gas line runs, and give you a written quote at the same visit.
Permit and 811
We pull the permit for your address and call Sunshine 811 before any digging.
Install and pressure test
We set the tank, run the line and pressure-test the system before it is used.
Inspection and first fill
The building department inspects the work, and the first fill of propane is included.
Questions about this
Do you hook up generators?
Yes. We install the propane tank and the gas line for standby generators, and size the tank so it can carry your generator through an outage. The generator itself and the electrical work are not included unless they are listed on your quote, so ask us about them at the site visit.
What size tank do I need?
Common home tank sizes are 120, 250, 500 and 1,000 gallons. The right size depends on what the gas will run (a generator, pool heater, water heater, range) and how long you want to go between fills. We size the tank for you at the free site visit.
What about hurricanes and flooding?
We anchor every tank we install, as the code requires in South Florida’s flood and high-wind areas. Before a storm, check that your tank has enough propane, especially if it runs a generator, and keep the area around it clear. After a storm, if the tank has moved, a line looks damaged or you smell gas, stay away from it: from a safe distance, call 911 and your gas company, and have the system checked before you use it again.
Do you handle permits? How long do they take?
Yes. Gas work needs a permit from your city or county, and we take care of the permit and the inspections. How long a permit takes depends on the local building department, so we tell you what to expect for your address with your quote.
Do I own the tank or rent it?
You own it. Red Brick sells you the tank and the gas system; we do not lease them. That means no tank rental fees. In Florida, only a tank’s owner, or someone the owner authorizes, may fill it, so as the owner the choice is yours.
Your price, in writing, at the first visit
The site visit is free. We look at your property and give you the quote right there, in English or Spanish.
