A gas pool heater uses a lot of gas, so the tank and the line have to be sized for it. We look at your heater, or the one you plan to buy, the distance from the tank to your pool equipment and any other gas appliances, and size the system for all of them.

What the job includes

  • A free site visit and a written quote.
  • A tank sized for the heater and any other gas appliances.
  • The gas line from the tank to the heater, sized for its gas use and pressure-tested before use.
  • The permit and inspections for your address.
  • The first fill of propane.

Buying a new heater too? Tell us at the site visit. Your quote lists exactly what is included.

How it works

  1. Free site visit

We look at the property, where the tank can go and how far the gas line runs, and give you a written quote at the same visit.

  2. Permit and 811

We pull the permit for your address and call Sunshine 811 before any digging.

  3. Install and pressure test

We set the tank, run the line and pressure-test the system before it is used.

  4. Inspection and first fill

The building department inspects the work, and the first fill of propane is included.

Questions about this

Do you install gas for pool heaters?

Yes. We set the tank and run the gas line to gas pool and spa heaters. A pool heater uses a lot of gas, so we size the tank for it.

What size tank do I need?

Common home tank sizes are 120, 250, 500 and 1,000 gallons. The right size depends on what the gas will run (a generator, pool heater, water heater, range) and how long you want to go between fills. We size the tank for you at the free site visit.

Is it safe? How far from the house?

Propane tanks have to sit set distances from buildings, property lines and anything that could make a spark, under the national propane code (NFPA 58). For example, an above-ground tank of 125 to 500 gallons usually goes at least 10 feet from the house. We pick the exact spot at the site visit so it meets code, and every system is pressure-tested before it is used.

Is the first fill included?

Yes. The first fill of propane is included with your installation, so the system is ready to use when we finish.
